Traditional Marketing Vs. Digital Marketing

We all have come across different types of marketing techniques to promote products that best capture our attention. We can feel in some ways to relate to that product, this can be a need or a want. We also feel the urge to contemplate ourselves on products based on the marketing behind the product. Marketers are evolving, and they continue to grow and create new marketing techniques and concepts to excite consumers. But behind the marketing in every promotion has steps. And each step creates a path to justify consumers to open their wallets and start spending.

Traditional Marketing is a form of promotion and advertising that includes media communication such as magazines, books, newspapers, radio and television broadcast. In the world of the 20th century, the conventional media communication tools have been around for many decades and are still used still this day.

Digital Marketing, like Tradition Marketing but with revolutionize strategies promotion and advertising but mainly uses the internet. We can say that we are lucky with the technology that we have currently, the capabilities to market better with the target audience with the capabilities to reach consumers.

With Samsung’s Campaign “Ingenious” on promoting their early 2018 Samsung Galaxy S9, they have been having fun with their imitation of Apple’s 2017 iPhone X of lack of innovation comparison to Samsung’s holy grail of improvements of including of keeping the headphone jack, dongle fiasco, being faster and more efficient. Watching these advertisement compilations were a laugh to all consumers, hey if you’ve watched the part of a family having the same hair cut that looked like a notch, it was a bonus to find, funny how Samsung’s creativity how a notch on a phone isn’t is always nice to have. It’s genuinely good to see how modern marketing has evolved, how not only we can just promote products but also actually fun doing it, for example Samsung’s mockery of the iPhone X.

The excitement for Digital Marketing is truly revolutionize, including the technology leaps that has created for marketers to create new media channels such as your YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Samsung’s marketing methods have been both traditional and modern marketing but uses more modern marketing due to being a technology company. It’s good to see humorous pokes, the marketing strategy to create a great advertising campaign, would certainly love to see more of these just like the “Ingenious” campaign!

  1. Hey Joseph! Interesting read here! I guess companies today have to use different marketing strategies to gain consumer attention. They see any flaws and positives within each marketing method and use the ones that would aid the company’s public image.

    1. Hey Andy! Today’s age of marketing overall has definitely changed due to flaws. I think marketers are getting smarter, they are becoming more aware with the constant updates that are ever changing everyday. In terms of the marketing strategies, we are moving towards an online era, consumers are more aware and definitely the company’s public image is key towards brand conception.

  2. Hey Joseph, I really enjoyed this read. With the rise of digital marketing, I believe it has in some ways overshadowed traditional marketing methods due to the endless opportunities and potential that digital marketing holds for a business. I have seen the Samsung advertisement before and found it quite humorous to watch as they stated true facts and their opinions on Apple’s IPhone X. It was quite clever of Samsung as it caught a lot of attention from the public and I personally believe that there is nothing wrong of down-talking their top competitor as it is almost required due to the dominance of Apple.

    1. Hey Matthew! thanks for stopping by. It’s good see two massive companies having a little stir. But I see this as positive outcome for both companies to have great campaigns. This encourages more companies to do the same and have their own little twist to spice up great marketing ads. Going back to the Samsung’s ad, what highlighted Samsung’s attack was the notch from Apple’s iPhone X which for some people did get it at first. But you are right about there is nothing wrong with what Samsung did, because moral to the story is that Apple won with Samsung’s Ingenious ad, however Samsung did have outstanding features that benefit more for the consumer. Everything dials down to personal preference.

  3. Hey Joseph, Interesting post! This is my first time watching the video of how Samsung makes fun of Apple, which I found really interesting. In this digital era where it is full of ads, marketers should promote their brand creatively and smarter as most people will just ignore dull and unattractive ads, which I’m one of them.

    1. Hey Junni! thanks for stopping by. It’s good to see competitors have a little fun of with each other, especially in the technology world when big companies like Samsung and Apple go at it. I feel that if companies do this, both increase brand awarness for both companies which other technology companies are less attracted by what Samsung and Apple has done. I do agree with creativity ads being more of a prominent approach rather than see such dull ad unattractive ads.
